www.progressivehousingsociety.netThe Outreach Resource Centre operates out of Southside Community Church at 7135 Walker Avenue in Burnaby on Thursday mornings from 9-11:30 am. It is sponsored by the Burnaby Task Force on Homelessness and operated by the Progressive Housing Society, a founding member of the Task Force, and many Community Volunteers.The Outreach Resource Centre was established at the end of November 2006. It provides weekly access to health care, outreach workers, food, donated clothing, and toiletry items In the flu season nurses provide immunizations. Once a month there is a learning table providing access to reading materials, assistance with reading, informal discussions about literacy.
The Outreach Resource Centre services between 85-100 people per week and has served over 5400 meals thus far. The Outreach Resource Centre operates weekly with volunteers from Progressive Housing Society and the Burnaby Task Force On Homelessness.The Progressive Housing Societys Homeless Outreach Program provides Outreach Workers, who are funded through BC Housing and Service Canada, has made over 2000 contacts with people who are dealing with the issue of homelessness. They have had over two thousand contacts with people at risk of homelessness. The Outreach Workers estimates there to be 250 people in Burnaby dealing with the issue of homelessness. The Progressive Housing Societys Homeless Outreach Program have assisted 300 people in obtaining housing and supports 11 people permanently placed with BC Housing. The Homeless Outreach Program has recently expanded with the operation of a Mobile Outreach Van. The van is located in a variety of locations throughout Burnaby and provides all of the same services as the Progressive Housing office.
