Homelessness Action Week 2011

2011 Homelessness Action Week in Burnaby 

The Burnaby Task Force On Homelessness is organizing a sixth annual Homelessness Action Week in Burnaby from October 10-16.  www.burnabyhomelesstaskforce.org

Homelessness Action Week is now a province wide initiative organized by the Regional Steering Committee on Homelessness and Ethos Strategy Group. www.stophomelessness.ca

The Burnaby events for Homelessness Action Week provide access to  health care, outreach worker support, clothing and food for many Burnaby people who are dealing with the issue of homelessness and living in extreme poverty.

Burnaby Homeless Connect 2011 

Thank you to the 7 volunteers and 2 staff who compiled comfort kits on Tuesday Oct 11th   and the 20 volunteers/staff who set up for the event on Wed Oct 12th 

and at Burnaby Homeless Connect thank you to the

46 volunteers, 66 service providers and 22 special guests who helped provide

service to 182 individuals

 

316 people attended this important event

180   Pancake BREAKFASTS were served by the Burnaby Optimists

  24   EYE CARE examinations performed

  21   DENTAL examinations performed

  38   Individuals were seen by the NURSE and NURSE PRACTITIONER

                        3 BLOOD PRESSURE CLINIC

                         8 NURSE PRACTITIONER

                       11 PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICES NURSE

                         8 ABORIGINAL HEALTH

   56   People received FLU SHOTS

   18   People attended the FOOT CARE CLINIC

   64   HAIR CUTS were completed

   12   MAKE OVERS were completed

 128   Attended the LEARNING TABLE

   45   People received information from LEGAL SERVICES

 300   Hot Dogs, 170 bowls of Chili, 400 bowls of Ice Cream were served Salvation Army

 106   People received COMFORT KITS

   18  Connected with the Progressive Housing Society OUTREACH WORKERS

 Over 31 People attended who were formerly HOMELESS and are now HOUSED
